The latest job creation data for Mpumalanga depicts hope for the province. The latest quarterly labour force survey issued by Statistics South Africa on Tuesday, indicate that Mpumalanga recorded a net quarterly job gains of around 48 000 in the third quarter period of 2023.

According to Statistic South Africa, the finance industry recorded the highest job gains, followed by mining and private households. This is the highest employment level recorded in Mpumalanga as it has reportedly performed better than the other provinces in the October to December 2023 period.

If approached from the quarterly job creation on an industrial level, Mpumalanga ranked second highest or best in trade, mining and private households as well as third highest best in finance and utilities.

Mpumalanga Premier, Ms Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane is elated by the good news. She states that job creation would continue to be priority number on the agenda of the Provincial Government. She says despite the challenging economic environment, measures she pronounced during the State of the Province Address (SOPA) last year to create jobs, are bearing fruits especially for the youth.

“We remain resolute with the economic interventions such as the Premier’s Youth Development Fund, that they will go a long way in addressing the high rate of unemployment in our province,” says Premier Mtshweni-Tsipane.
