  • Born on the 10th of May 1965 in KwaZanele Location in Breyten, in the Msukaligwa Local Municipality, MEC Busisiwe P. Shiba is a politician and a member of the African National Congress (ANC), who is currectly the MEC for Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs. 
     
  • She started her career as an Educator at Badjesbuilt Combined School in Carolina, under Chief Albert Luthuli Local Municipality.  
     
  • Due to her commitment and leadership capabilities, she was later promoted to the school’s Management team.  
     
  • A Gender Activist of note, she was elected as a Provincial Gender Convener of the South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU), where she led campaigns such as PTCA, voluntary HIV/AIDS campigns and many others.  
     
  • While serving as SADTU’s Provincial Executive Committee member, she represented Educators in the Education Labour Relations Council (ELRC) and served in the Mpumalanga Examination Board.  
     
  • She also served in other structures such as COSATU, and was the leader of the Centenary Task Team in the Province in 2012.  
     
  • In 2005, she was deployed by the ANC as a PR Councillor in the Chief Albert Luthuli Local Municipality, and she was deployed as an Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Economic Development after the 2006 Local Government Elections.  
     
  • After the Local Government Elections in 2011, she was tasked to lead the Chief Albert Luthuli Local Municipality as the Executive Mayor, in which she served until the end of the term in 2016.  
     
  • She then got deployed to serve as the MEC for Social Development from 2016 to 2019.  
     
  • Ms Shiba was elected as the Speaker of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature from 2019 to 2021, during which she was deployed to serve as the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs from 2021 to 2022.  
     
  • She was appointed as the MEC for Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs since May 2022 to date.  
     
  • She also served as a Provincial Deputy Chairperson of the ANC Women’s League from 2015 until 2022.  
     
  • MEC Shiba is a National Executive Committee (NEC) member of the ANC Women’s League.  
     
  • She holds a Master’s Degree in Public Management from Regenesys Business School, including Certificates in Local Economic Development, Municipal Leadership and Human Resource Management.  
     
  • MEC Busi Shiba is a devoted Christian and also enjoys reading, travelling, and spending quality time with her family.
