A first applicant and beneficiary of Masibuyele Esibayeni for the year 2021/2022. Nompumelelo Tshabalala of Okuhle Piggery in Sundra, Victor Khanye Municipality received 10 sows plus 1 boar and 128 bags of 50kg pig feed. This set adds to her 50 sows operation farm as her core business is to breed pigs from farrowing to Poker/ Baconer stage.

Ms Tshabalala acquired a plot in 2019 which had a pig structure, upon her introduction to the agricultural practitioner assigned to her area. She was advised to consider piggery production as she already had a structure and the location permitted. Thereafter she started a piggery project after attending a one week piggery production training at Agricultural Research Council Training. The training gave her great knowledge and was inspired to consider the advice of the agricultural practitioner with a primary focus on breeding good quality pigs with the best genetic makeup in order to ensure an efficient cost effective supply of pokers and Baconers to the local abattoirs. She appreciates the support from the department and is happy with the breeds she has received.
