Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Pat Ngomane has expressed his concerns about the disappearance and therefore calls for police to urgently bring the suspects to book. This follows the disappearance of a child who was found murdered after she disappeared from her home in Siyabuswa on Saturday, 21 July 2018.
The MEC's reaction follows the kidnap and the murder of six-year-old Noluthando Masango who first disappeared before her lifeless body was discovered in a shallow stream, a few meters away from her relatives‘s house where she was last seen.
Apparently Noluthando was attending a traditional ceremony with her grandmother in Siyabuswa A. It is reported that she was playing with other children when she went out of the room and never returned back.
The MEC says there seems to be a trend where children get kidnapped and in worst cases they become killed while others become reunited with their families. Not long time ago a 13 year old, Katlego Marite, was abducted by men at Tasbett Park in Emalahleni, while another girl was abducted near her school in the same area of Siyabuswa.
Ngomane has appealed to the police to urgently bring the suspect to book. He further appealed to the Criminal Justice System to ensure that those who are found guilty of any offences relating to the ill treatment of minors receive lengthy jail sentences saying, this will serve as a deterrent to other menaces in our midst to immediately stop.
The MEC has further appealed to members of the public to assist the police with any information that may lead to the arresting of the suspects. Ngomane has condemned the incident of killing children saying that it destroys the social fiber and the future of the country.
He added that children should not be worrying about their safety but instead should be mainly preoccupied with their school work. He urged communities to be highly vigilant regarding the whereabouts of their children at all times.
“What type of a society that constantly violates its children. It cannot be that children cannot walk freely in their own neighbourhoods. We need to urgently remove these beasts from the society. We should never normalize evil. We must do all in our power to ensure that the most vulnerable members of our society, especially children, are safe at all times,” Ngomane said.
