Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe has applauded the police in the province for arresting two Mozambican Nationals aged 38 and 33 after they were found to be in possession of drugs worth over R10 million.
The arrest took place on Tuesday [09 August 2016] near the Nkomazi Tollgate at about 08h00. The incident occurred when Police alongside the dog unit stopped and searched the vehicle of the suspects and police dogs reacted positively.
The suspects’ vehicle was then summoned to the police station for an authentic search. It came forth that the suspects had hidden the drugs in different compartments of the vehicle including the spare wheel, seats and in the engine. Drugs were recovered and confiscated by the police.
The MEC says the Police did outstanding work by arresting the suspect and it came at an appropriate time before he could even distribute them where ever he was travelling to.
MEC Shongwe also commended the Police in the Province, stating that working hard in the fight against crime, fraud and corruption is Government’s priority. Shongwe says criminals have no place in our communities. He says Government is striving for a free crime society.
He further added that drug dealers should be rooted out because they destroy the dreams of our future leaders. Shongwe says by speedily prosecuting these suspects and other criminal cases, communities will continue to have faith in law enforcement agencies.
MEC Shongwe has also urged community members to come forward with names of criminals in order to get them behind bars. He emphasized the fact that information on suspected criminals is important for the work of Police and leads to arrest.
He maintained that working together with communities, crime can be defeated. Shongwe said police should not rest until the perpetrators have been brought into book.The suspects will appear at the Kaapmuiden Periodical Court today [10 August 2016]. They are facing charges of dealing in drugs.
