Media Statement

Three people lost their lives abruptly on Sunday evening when the sports utility vehicle (SUV) overturned on R23 Road between Balfour and Heidelberg. The deceased includes three passengers among them, two adults and one child. Two more people sustained serious injuries.

The victims were declared dead at the scene by paramedics who responded to the scene. It is not yet clear as to what caused the crash, but the investigation is already underway. Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Mr. Vusi Shongwe once more urged motorists to obey the rules and also drive cautiously.

"We need to turn the situation around on our roads to curb needless loss of life. We cannot continue to lose lives like this as a result of crashes. Motorists must play their part by obeying the rules and tolerating each other," says the MEC.
