The Mpumalanga Premier, Mr Mandla Ndlovu will address members of the Provincial House of Traditional and Khoisan leaders, to mark the official opening of the house this financial year. The House is a key governance structure that advocates for the development of communities in rural areas as well as cultural heritage and customs in the province.
The occasion marks a central moment for the Premier as it affords him with an opportunity to outline government’s developmental and service delivery plans for rural communities during the year under review, and progress in the implementation of previous commitments.
The Premier’s address is crucial to mobilize the participation of traditional leaders in government’s efforts to reduce the poverty rate from more than 50 percent to less than 35 percent in the province, as well as the scourge of Gender Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) that is detrimental to social cohesion.
The Mpumalanga Provincial Government has a sound working relationship with the institution of traditional leadership, and continues to provide them with the much needed support, such as the renovation of offices for traditional councils and provision of vehicles, as tools of trade.
