The long awaited security upgrades at the home of the crime survivors’ house at Vosman in Emalahleni have been completed. Mpumalanga Community Security and Liaison MEC Pat Ngomane will officially hand over the upgraded facility to the family on Thursday, 11 October 2018.
On 28 January 2018, Gabisile Shabane (13) a child with albinism and one-year-old Nkosikhona Ngwenya were reported abducted by armed men from their home while they were sleeping. Their bodies were later found abandoned at Cullinan and along the N4 Highway.
Four suspects were arrested in February and were charged with kidnapping and murder. They have been kept in custody since their arrest after bail was denied. The suspects will appear in Court today while the children will be laid to rest next weekend.
During his visit to the family earlier this year, MEC Ngomane, the eMalahleni Local Municipality and some stakeholders such as Highveld Steel pledged to assist the family by enhancing the security features of their house in order to prevent further break-ins.
Through donations, the MEC and the stakeholders managed to refurbish the house. The roof of the house has been re-done, the house plastered and painted and the floor tiled. A security wall and a gate have also been completed.
The MEC will be accompanied by the eMalahleni Local Municipality Mayor, Cllr Linah Malatjie and the stakeholders that assisted the family.
