The Mpumalanga Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation continues to excel in promoting skills development in the Province, as a result, it walked away with four
awards at this year's Kamoso Awards.

The Kamoso Awards were held last month at Steve Tshwete banquet Hall in Middelburg to reward public bodies and non–state organisations for excelling in terms of implementing  the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP). The awards were launched in 2007 by the Department of Public Works.

Speaking at the event, MEC Ms Norah Mahlangu–Mabena said the Department would continue to promote economic growth and create sustainable development through the EPWP as it creates employment opportunities for South Africans. "We are happy that we have won the four awards and they will indeed motivate us to work harder so that we could create better lives for our people through exciting and sustainable arts projects," Mahlangu-Mabena said.

The Department won gold in the following categories: Best Innovation Project: Creative Industries My Village My Art. Best Provincial Project: Creative Industries My Village My Art. Best Innovative Project: Community Activity Coordinators and Silver for Best Performing Institution: Environment and Culture Sector. My Village, My Art is a project which seeks to develop the arts and craft sector in Mpumalanga. It consists of various sections promoting craft, arts and design in the province.
