Plans are at an advanced stage to host a Memorial Service in honour of the late learners who lost their lives last week on Wednesday, in Mafube Village, Steve Tshwete Local Municipality.

Six (6) learners from the Morelig Combined school died in a collision between a scholar bus transport and a train, on the R104 road between Arnot and Wonderfontein in the afternoon on Wednesday, 31 July 2024.

The Mpumalanga Premier, Mr Mandla Ndlovu has since established a Committee to prepare for the Memorial Service which will take place on Wednesday, 7 August 2024 at the Sikhululiwe Community Hall, in Mafube village at 11h00.

Mr Ndlovu says the Provincial Government is a caring government, and is therefore determined to support the affected families through various interventions.

Apart from the Memorial Service, the government is also coordinating a Joint Funeral Service to accord the deceased a dignified burial.

The Premier has extended his profound condolences to the bereaved families of the late learners and wished those in hospitals a speedy recovery.

Details of the Memorial Service are as follows:

Date: Wednesday, 7 August 2024

Time: 11h00

Venue: Sikhululiwe Community Hall, in Mafube village.

Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, and will commence at 08h00 at the Sikhululiwe Community Hall, before proceeding to the local cemetery at the Mafube village.
