Community Safety and Security Liaison
Media Statement

Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Mr. Jackie Macie has called on the police to thoroughly investigate the recent killings in Mpumalanga.

He has pleaded for calm in affected communities saying that the police must be given space to assiduously investigate these murders and other related cases so that perpetrators are brought to book. The MEC was reacting to four recent murder incidents in the province since Sunday.

The first one involves Mr. Kosi Thugwana, aged 45 who was found fatally shot inside his vehicle on Sunday (05 January 2025) night in Tweefontein. According to the police, his body was found in his stationery vehicle while the engine was still running. The police discovered that he sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The deceased was a member of the Ndzundza Fene Traditional Council in Thembisile Hani Local Municipality.

On the other hand, MEC has noted the arrest of three suspects in connection with an incident where three people were shot and killed in Piet Retief on Thursday (09 January 2025) afternoon.

"We welcome the progress police have made so far and we are confident that those who are responsible will face the full consequences of their actions. We therefore call on members of the public who may have information to contact the police and not take the matters into their own hands," says Macie.

ENDS.
