The Mpumalanga Provincial Government will host a crucial 2-days Investment and Mining Conference in the mining town of Middelburg, Steve Tshwete Local Municipality.

Although mining is one of the Mpumalanga’s economic backbone, with a contribution of 20 percent to the Provincial Gross Domestic Product (GDP), however, the conference will highlight the province’s vast investment opportunities, not only in mining, but in the green economy, renewable energy, gas products and agricultural production.

The Premier, Mr. Mandla Ndlovu is enthusiastic that the conference will propel the province to achieve the strategic priorities of the 7th administration, of driving inclusive growth and job creation, reducing the high costs of living and building a capable, ethical and developmental state. The Premier’s assertion is based on the theme of the conference of ‘driving investment for a sustainable and inclusive economy’. He says the conference will crystalize available opportunities where investments could thrive and create sustainable growth.

The Mpumalanga Economic Growth Agency (MEGA) is a key coordinator of the conference, based on its mandate of “We are repositioning our province as a globally competitive investment hub. Therefore the conference will help us to reposition Mpumalanga Province as an investment destination of choice, to forge a collective future where our wealth translates directly into the prosperity of our people, as we attract more investments,” Premier Ndlovu elaborates.

The Premier says the conference will reflect the Province’s determination to unlock new frontiers of economic growth that will benefit both current and future generations.

The Mpumalanga Economic Growth Agency (MEGA) is mobilising the participation of a broad spectrum of stakeholders in line with its mandate, as development agency. The stakeholders include government representatives, mining houses and investment agencies for them to attend the conference to discuss investment strategies for inclusive and sustainable growth.

It is envisaged that an amount of R50 billion will be raised through pledges at the end of the conference, and that a dialogue and collaboration between the government and the business sector will be facilitated.
