Three people have died around 07h00 this morning on R40 Road towards Hazyvview when a light delivery vehicle (bakkie) overturned. The three perished at the scene.
One person with critical injuries was airlifted to Robs Ferreira Hospital in Mbombela.
Other four were seriously injured while 17 other people got away with injuries ranging from mild to moderate. They are receiving treatment at Matikwane and Themba hospitals in Bushbuckridge and Kabokweni respectively.
The cause of the crash is not yet known. The case of culpable homicide has been registered with the police.
Meanwhile Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Gabisile Shabalala visited the crash scene this morning.
Without prejudicing the cause of the crash, the MEC has appealed to motorists to use the road with great caution. She says this will contribute greatly towards reducing death and injury as a result of road crashes. The MEC pleaded with the road users to also abide by the rules.
"Motorists should abide by the rules. Those who violate the rules should face the full might of the law," said the
MEC.
Meawhile Shabalala is sending condolences to the bereaved families. She has also wished those who were injured a speedy recovery.
