The Mpumalanga Department of Education has pulled all stops to ensure that the 2023 grade 12 National Senior Certificate Examinations progress without any glitches.

 

These examinations will commence in full swing on Monday, 30 October 2023, with the writing of First papers for English Home and First Additional Language at 09H00.

This translate to only 18 remaining days before the start of these examinations for the Class of 2023.

There are 68 681 full time and 16 767 part time candidates who have been registered to write the National Senior Certificate Examination this year.

Ehlanzeni District has registered the biggest number of candidates which is 18 292 full time and 6 210 part-time.

Nkangala District has registered 17 462 full time and 4 632 part time candidates.

Gert Sibande District has registered 16 267 full time and 2 853 part time candidates while Bohlabela District has registered 16 089 full time and 2 529 part time candidates.

Candidates were registered through the South African Schools Administration Management System (SA-SAMS) in a process which commenced on 31 March 2023.

An Assessment instructions with Preliminary schedules was sent to schools by 22 June 2023. These preliminary schedules are meant to help verify and authenticate the registration information.

Audits of Grade 12 centres and Support on candidates' registration and correction was done by Head Office and District officials.

The 2023 Grade 12 National Senior Certificate Examination will take place in 550 centres which are spread throughout the Province. 20 alternative venues will be used by schools with limited writing space.

The Department has already appointed and trained 571 Chief and Deputy Invigilators.

 Mandatory training of Chief Invigilators was conducted in collaboration with the South African Council of Educators in September 2023. 

38 independent schools meet the minimum requirements to be examination centres this time around.

Monitoring will be enhanced and the training of monitors is scheduled to take place from 17 – 19 October 2023. Resident monitors will be deployed to High Risk Centres.

The Provincial Education Irregularities Committee has been re-constituted and their training took place in September 2023.

All candidates will be expected to sign a Code of Good Conduct Pledge on 20 October 2023.
