Schools that are playing a part in mitigating the effects and impact of Climate Change were honoured at a gathering in Manzana, in the Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality. The Department, through its Environmental Affairs Chief Directorate, held a Climate Change Schools Programme prize giving event on 11 October 2018, which has since attracted the attention of over 500 schools throughout the province that participate in.
The programme targets schools, with an aim to encourage learners and their educators to play a part in environmental programmes, which in turn go a long way in mitigating the effects and impact of Climate Change. Learners and their Educators with sound Environmental Programmes walked away with Trophies, Jojo Tanks, Digital Cameras, shovels, garden forks, watering cans etc. Speaking at the prize giving event, MEC VR Shongwe appreciated the role played by learners on issues affecting the environment, at their ages, and contributing to Climate Change mitigation. The event was also graced by the Acting Mayor of the Chief Albert Luthuli Local Municipality, the Head in the DARDLEA, stakeholders from sister Departments, parastals and sponsors like Enviro Loo, amongst others.
