The MEC for Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs, Mr Andries Gamede is expected to officially launch the Ploughing Season at a provincial World Food Day event in Lefisoane, Marapyane at Dr JS Moroka municipality on Thursday, 30th October 2014. The launch is aimed at increasing food security at household level, through the implementation of appropriate interventions, including enhancing the Masibuyele Emasimini programme.

The World Food Day is held annually on the 16th October with an aim to heighten public awareness and seek opportunities to strengthen the national and international solidarity against poverty, hunger and malnutrition. MEC Gamede is expected to donate perishable and non-perishable products to 800 identified needy families, but also take time to encourage local communities to play their part in producing food through food gardens and subsistence farming.

The 2014 Theme: “Family Farming – Feeding the World, Caring for Earth”.
