The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison (DCSSL) has lost another traffic law enforcement officer in a road crash. Provincial Inspector Dumisane Ndlovu, 49, was doing a routine stop-and-check on the N2 Road outside Mkhondo towards Phongola when he was struck by a minibus taxi. The incident happened around 17h00 on Thursday, 05 February 2026. Ndlovu was declared dead at the scene. He was attached to Piet Retief Cost Centre.

Ndlovu is the fourth law enforcement officer to lose their life on the same stretch of road in similar circumstances. A case of culpable homicide is being investigated.

MEC Jackie Macie says the Department is devastated. "We don't have enough traffic officers to police our roads. Losing one officer cripples our efforts to enhance road safety," he said. The MEC sends condolences to Ndlovu's family, friends, and colleagues. Funeral arrangements will be communicated later.
