A total of 171 Christmas babies (2025) were delivered across Mpumalanga Department of Health facilities.

Babies born on Christmas Day in the year 2025

The first 2025 Christmas baby was born in Tonga Hospital under Ehlanzeni District at 00h02.

Ehlanzeni District recorded the highest number of deliveries, with 71, followed by Gert Sibande with 52 and Nkangala with the lowest number of deliveries at 48.

Gert Sibande experienced the highest number of twin deliveries, with two sets of twins delivered in Evander and Ermelo Hospitals, followed by Nkangala with one set from Witbank Hospital, while no twin deliveries were reported at Ehlanzeni District.

Gert Sibande was the only district that reported Born Before Arrival (BBAs), the two from Carolina Hospital and Balfour Community Health Centre (CHC), whereas no Born before arrival (BBAs) were reported for Ehlanzeni and Nkangala District.

Nkangala District reported a stillbirth weighing 705g from Waterval CHC in Dr JS Moroka, with no stillbirths reported in the other two districts.

Ehlanzeni recorded the highest number of under 19 years teenage deliveries, with 12, followed by Nkangala with 7 and Gert Sibande with 6, and cases of mothers aged 16 and below were reported at Mammetlhake, Witbank, and Standerton hospitals. Two 15-year-old teenage mothers from Witbank and Mammetlhake Hospital and two 16-year-olds from Mammetlhake and Standerton hospitals were reported, and these cases will be reported to the Department of Social Development for further investigation.
