The Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) in Mpumalanga welcomes the deployment of Town and Regional Planners in four local municipalities. The eight (8) technical experts were deployed by the Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) to improve the technical capacity of the municipalities. They are expected to spend three years in the following local municipalities, namely:
- Thaba Chweu
- eMalahleni
- Lekwa
- Dipaleseng
MEC for COGTA, Mr Mandla Msibi says the deployment will improve the technical capacity of the four municipalities. “Most municipalities are grant dependent in Mpumalanga and are struggling to attract such technical experts due to low incentives. This affects the effective functionality of their technical departments. This deployment will serve as a major boost to the identified municipalities during the deployment period,” Mr Msibi elaborated.
Mr Msibi urged the municipalities to create a friendly working environment for the experts.
