The Mpumalanga Premier, Ms Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane will lead an entourage of MEC, Executive Mayors and Senior officials to the disaster hit areas tomorrow. MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mr Mandla Msibi, Ehlanzeni District Executive Mayor, Cllr Jaster Sidell and the Executive Mayor of the City of Mbombela will accompany Premier Mtshweni-Tsipane on the site visits, which include damaged roads and bridges as Mpumalanga is making efforts to respond to the emergencies.
The tropical storm, accompanied by heavy rains, has left a trail of destruction in the infrastructure, including housing structures. In some instances, motorists had to be diverted to alternative roads due to severe damages, whilst some families were left homeless. Eight (8) fatalities due to drowning in rivers, dams and water streams have occurred while five (5) persons are still missing.
