Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Pat Ngomane will lead the official launch of the Boarder Security Project that is aimed at addressing trans-national crime cases. The project is expected to assist in reducing amongst others the challenge of stock theft, illegal crossing, human trafficking and illicit and counterfeit goods.
The implementation of the project was triggered by the visit of the Former National Minister of Police, Honourable Nathi Nhleko, State Security Minister David Mahlobo, MEC Pat Ngomane and The Mpumalanga Provincial Commissioner, LTD General Mondli Zuma.
Illegal crossing at the borderline is one of the most contributors to crime in the province. Community members have recently raised concerns on crimes related to stock theft and stealing of vehicles to Mozambique.
The project is also expected to strengthen relationships between the community and police that will see more community members reporting crime.
Stakeholders that are also participating in this project includes Traditional Leadership of Nkomazi, Community Police Forum, National Department of Public Works and the South African National Defense Force.
