Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Petrus Ngomane has pleaded his full support to the Ndlovu family following the tragic killing of their daughter who was raped before being stabbed to death. Her body was later discovered near Mpumalanga Stadium in Wesselton near Ermelo.
MEC Ngomane visited the family on Sunday, 21 August 2016 where he passed his heartfelt condolences to the visibly distraught family.
Ngomane was accompanied by SAPS Provincial Commissioner, LT. General Mondli Zuma and Msukaligwa Local Municipality Mayor, Clr. Solomon Nkosi and Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison (DCSSL) Head, William Mthombothi.
The MEC said although it was all still too painful for such a horrific loss on the family, what was somewhat pleasing was that at least the suspect has been brought to book and he should be severely punished.
Ngomane went on to say: “The police should also be commended for the swift arrests of the suspect; the perpetrator, once found guilty should rot in jail. We cannot afford to have freedom of movement to be taken away by some rascals who are hell-bent on terrorizing our communities.”
As part of support to the family, a task team consisting of officials from DCSSL and SAPS has been formed. The team is expected to assist the family with funeral arrangements and trauma counseling among others.
The MEC, seeing the level of hardships that is characterizing the family and surrounding neighbourhoods, indicated that it was important that provision of housing and other services to the area is fastracked. The family is currently staying in a dilapidated shack.
He has also called on the Department of Social Development to assist the family with post trauma counseling and that the support should not end with the funeral.
The deceased will be laid to rest in Wesselton tomorrow at a funeral service that will commence from 09h00. The suspect has already appeared in court and he is further expected to appear again in court on Friday, 26 August 2016.
