Strengthening accountability, safeguarding public resources and building ethical municipalities require skilled investigators, empowered oversight institutions and strong financial governance.
Today, the Mpumalanga Provincial Government, through Integrity Management in the Office of the Premier and the Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA), in partnership with the Local Government Anti-Corruption Forum and National Treasury, is hosting a Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA) Workshop at Mbombela Stadium.
The workshop brings together investigators, prosecutors, Special Investigating Unit (SIU) officials, municipal risk management practitioners and other key stakeholders responsible for investigating and preventing corruption in the public sector.
The Municipal Finance Management Act (Act 56 of 2003) provides the framework for sound and sustainable financial management in municipalities, promoting transparency, accountability and responsible use of public resources.
By strengthening the capacity of municipalities, law enforcement agencies and oversight bodies, government is taking decisive steps to ensure that those who misuse public funds are held accountable while fostering ethical governance and improved service delivery for communities.
