Media Advisory

The Mpumalanga Department of Education will in collaboration with the Department of Health convene a Safety Indaba on 28 – 29 August 2019, 09h00 at Nutting House in the City of Mbombela. The call comes after recent spate of violent and criminal activities in Schools, Clinics and Hospitals which seem to undermine the provision of quality Education and Health services.

The following are the objectives of the Indaba:-

  • To strengthen and re-enforce the Provincial Integrated Safety Programme for both School and Health Institutions
  • To identify contributory factors to the violent activities
  • To initiate and mobilise community activism around Education and  Health Institutions
  • To strengthen the implementation of an integrated safety strategy at community level
  • To mobilise community based structures to support Schools, Clinics and Hospitals
  • Maximise support for vulnerable learners, educators, patients, nurses and doctors

In their respective 2019/20 policy and budget speeches, both MEC’s emphasised that violence and other forms of social ills must not find space in any of the Education and Health institutions thus identifying the Safety Indaba as one of the key drivers to mobilise relevant stakeholders towards strengthening safety in Schools, Clinics and Hospitals.

The Media is invited
