Four people lost their lives in a side-swipe collision involving a minibus taxi and a light delivery vehicle (LDV) on R581 between Malelane and Kamhlushwa on Saturday night (07 March 2026). The deceased were the driver of the taxi and three passengers, including a child estimated to be two years old. All the injured were rushed to Shongwe Hospital. The cause of the crash is not yet known, as the investigation is currently underway.

Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Mr Jackie Macie, has appealed to motorists to be vigilant on the road and obey the rules to avoid deadly crashes. "Let's all play our part by being vigilant and prevent needless loss of life and injury from road crashes," says Macie. He also advised motorists to be more cautious at night when visibility is reduced.

Macie extends condolences to the bereaved families and wishes the injured a speedy recovery.
