Media Statement

While the annual Innibos Festival brings many people to Mbombela to enjoy, it also boosts the economy of the city. This annual signature event enhances social cohesion among the revelers.

Many attendees will be able to create lifetime memories after attending the event. However, the event like many others could be negatively affected by loss of lives and injury from mostly avoidable road crashes.

It is in this context that motorists who will be travelling to the festival are encouraged to obey the rules. They are also advised to travel during the day whenever possible due to the shortness of daylight in winter.

Furthermore, they are urged to adjust their driving in line with varying conditions on the road including weather conditions and road works.

Motorists are advised to observe the following tips:

  • Plan your route in such a way that you can rest sufficiently along the way.

  • Adjust your driving according to prevailing conditions including weather and road works.

  • Ensure that your vehicle is roadworthy.

  • Ensure your vehicle is insured and that you have road side assistance in the event of emergencies.

  • Ensure that you are always reachable on the phone when traveling.

  • Do not pick up hitchhikers as you may be vulnerable to carjacking.

  • Travel during the day whenever possible.

  • Reduce speed when driving in wet weather and on unfamiliar roads.

  • Do not text while driving.

  • Maintain a prudent following distance.

  • Switch on head lamps during adverse weather conditions.

  • Ensure that safety belts are used and more importantly children are conveyed in safety constraints.
