Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Mr. Jackie Macie is calling on communities residing in Marite, Mkhuhlu, Madras and other areas serviced by Calcutta Police Station to help the police in the area with information that could assist in solving recent murder cases.
The MEC was reacting to the recent cases of murder that saw about five people losing their lives in the Calcutta policing precinct over the last two weeks.
On Tuesday, 12 November 2025, the police reported that a 37 year-old man was shot and reportedly passed on at the scene of crime near a tavern in Madras. The police have also made a gruesome discovery of a lifeless body of a man near a bottle store in Oakley. The victim also succumbed to gunshot wounds.
It is in this context that MEC Jackie Macie enjoins communities in the area to help police solve murder cases by anonymously providing information through MySAPS app and the Crime Stop Hotline: 08600 10111.
"We need communities to help the police solve crime. While the police are sparing no effort to reign in on criminals, communities remain an integral part of solving and preventing crime. They should provide tip-offs that could help in bringing evil doers to face full consequences of their actions," Macie says.
As some of the heinous crimes occurred in the vicinity of pubs, MEC Macie encourages liquor traders in the area to enhance security in their establishments and collaborate with the police to fight crime.
