Community Safety and Security Liaison
Media Statement

The Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Mr. Jackie Macie lauds the police in the province for the progress made in the case involving a police member who was shot and killed in Ermelo on Thursday (16 January 2025).

"We are happy with the progress made so far with the apprehension of the five suspects. We are encouraged by men and women in blue for the hardwork they have put in this and many other cases. Being a law enforcement officer, one naturally becomes the enemy of criminals. Therefore, we want our police to protect each other and remain vigilant at all times. They should not be deterred by criminals," says the MEC.

He also states that any person who attack members of the security cluster is directly attacking the state and therefore, such individuals must be given lengthy jail terms.

The MEC also appeals to members of the community to rally behind the police and support them in the execution of their duties. He says that they must report any suspicious individuals or activities to the police because the war against crime can only be won if we all work together.

Meanwhile, the MEC is sending condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.
