The MEC for Finance, Mr Bonakele Majuba, will on Friday, 31 January 2025, table a plan to set the Thaba Chweu Local Municipality on a path of desired financial position and service delivery outcome.

The amended Financial Recovery Plan (FRP) follows extensive engagement with various stakeholders, including municipal creditors, and reflects consensus on the required interventions to improve the financial and operational performance of the municipality.

“The implementation of this plan is mandatory for all role-players, including sector departments. We have incorporated strict reporting and accountability processes to ensure effective oversight at both Council and Executive Council levels,” stated MEC Majuba.

Thaba Chweu is one of four local municipalities in the Province currently under mandatory intervention in accordance with Section 139(5) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa. MEC Majuba has already tabled financial recovery plans for the Emalahleni and Msukaligwa Local Municipalities, and the plan for Govan Mbeki has also been approved.
