Community Safety and Security Liaison
Media Statement

Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Mr Jackie Macie, urges parents and guardians to keep a close eye on their children over the holiday period. He warned that heightened excitement can lead to neglect, making children vulnerable to traffickers, molesters and alcohol consumption. “We have seen children drinking on social media – this is unacceptable. Parents must stay vigilant; there are predators waiting for any lapse,” the MEC said.

For those travelling, the MEC advised securing homes by leaving a relative or informing neighbours to monitor properties, as criminals often target vacant houses during the festive season.

He reiterated the importance of road safety.

"Drink at home or where you won’t need to drive, buckle children up, remain patient, and adjust to weather conditions. Drunk driving will not be tolerated," insists the MEC.
