The MEC for Finance, Bonakele Majuba, presented a budget allocation of R647 million for the Provincial Treasury during the sitting of the Legislature on Thursday, 24 July 2025.

MEC Majuba stated that the departmental budget reflects a shared commitment to being an accountable and financially stable administration.

“The departmental budget supports the government's broad developmental agenda. Moreover, it serves as a concrete expression of our commitment to establishing a public service that operates efficiently and remains fully accountable to the citizens of Mpumalanga”, said MEC Majuba

The largest share of the departmental budget, totalling R358.9 million, is allocated to the Asset and Liability Management programme. The programme's objective is to provide policy guidance on public procurement and support technological advancements and systems in alignment with the government's digital transformation agenda.

Allocation to the other three programmes includes:

  • R167.1 million to drive the implementation of public and municipal finance legislation in the Province.
  • R86.4 million to implement a revenue enhancement strategy, encourage credible budgeting and spending in departments, public entities and municipalities.
  • R35 million to coordinate audit improvement plans and provide advisory services to all provincial institutions on financial reporting and general governance.

In the quest to promote responsible management of public resources, the MEC said the Provincial Treasury will support departments in conducting expenditure reviews, which will inform future provincial budget. The Provincial Treasury will continue to facilitate Medium-term Expenditure Framework hearings to enhance multi-year budget planning in the Province.
