MEC SIDELL WELCOMES THE APPOINTMENT OF BOARDS FOR MEGA AND MTPA AS A POSITIVE STEP TOWARDS STRENGTHENING GOVERNANCE AND STABILITY IN THE ENTITIES.

Mbombela — The MEC for Economic Development and Tourism, Ms. Jesta Sidell, says the appointment of the Boards of the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) and Mpumalanga Economic Growth Agency (MEGA) serves as a catalyst in the implementation of strategic measures to strengthen governance and foster stability in the Entities.

MEGA and MTPA serve as strategic frontline engines established to drive the implementation of the mandate Of the Department and the priorities of the 7th Administration, especially Priority 1, of driving inclusive growth and job creation. The Boards play a crucial oversight role to these Entities, in ensuring that the Department fulfil its mandate to stimulate economic growth and development in the province, so as to create sustainable and decent employment, economic transformation and to alleviate poverty.

"The appointment of Mr. Fish Mahlalela as Chairperson of the board of the MTPA gives me renewed hope that we are on the right path towards repositioning the entity as a driver of tourism development in the province. Mr. Mahlalela has experience in government, and has once served as Deputy Minister of Tourism, among the many leadership roles in government. I must also indicate that the outgoing MTPA Interim Board under the leadership of Mr. Mahlalela has done an outstanding job in turning the MTPA around," asserted MEC Sidell.

"Likewise, I am equally pleased by the appointment of Mr. Jabulani Mahlangu, who is also not new to our department, having previously served as an MEC, also took over the ropes as the Interim Chairperson of MEGA, following the resignation of the then Chairperson. Evidently, both the MTPA and MEGA are very crucial Entities in our Province, as they are critical in driving the economic growth and development agenda of Mpumalanga. Without leadership stability at the level of the Boards, they would not be able to consistently deliver on their respective legislative mandates", added Sidell.

The composition of the eleven-member Board of the MTPA is as follows:

Mr. Fish Mahlalela (Chairperson)
Ms. Mohita Latchminarain
Mr. Raymond Sizile Ndlovu
Ms. Qondile Gloria Thabethe
Mr. Walter Makgai
Ms. Gladys Monama
prof. David Mabunda
Ms. Norah Mahlangu
Mr. Emmanuel Mtshali
Ms. Nomndeni Motha, and
Mr. Andy Le Monnier

For MEGA, the new eleven (II) Board members are as follows:

Mr. Jabulani Mahlangu (Chairperson)
Ms. Nkateko Khoza
Advocate Mthokozisi Xulu
Ms. Busisiwe Paulina Shiba
Mr. Sipho William Lubisi
Ms. Zakithi Makhubu
Mr. December Mavuso
Ms. Noxolo Zephania Oyiya
Mr. Jacques Modipane
Rev. Mhlupheki Micah Nthali, and
Ms. Elizabeth Mokoena

The two (2) Boards will serve for a period of four (4) years, as stipulated in the founding legislation of these Entities.

The MEC also extended her profound appreciation to the members of the newly appointment boards for their willingness to serve on the boards, and wish them well in the exercise and performance of their fiduciary duties and functions.

'Congratulations on your appointment as Board members of our strategic entities. I have full confidence that you are equal to the task ahead. I wish you all the best in your responsibility to transform the entities into viable and strategic vehicles to drive inclusive growth and job creation in the province as espoused by the 7th Administration", concluded MEC Sidell.
