MEC THOMO INTRODUCES CONTRACTOR FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF SIBOSHWA PRIMARY SCHOOL AND WARNS AGAINST PROJECT DISRUPTIONS

The Mpumalanga MEC for Public Works, Roads and Transport, Mr Thulasizwe Thomo, has introduced a contractor appointed to undertake the construction of Siboshwa Primary School, a project valued at more than R42 million, as part of government’s commitment to improving educational infrastructure and creating a conducive learning environment for learners and educators.

The project will deliver essential school infrastructure, including 14 classrooms, an administration block, computer and library rooms, electricity, a kitchen and other supporting facilities. Once completed, the new infrastructure is expected to improve teaching and learning conditions while providing learners and educators with a more suitable environment for academic development.

The introduction of the contractor was attended by the Acting Executive Mayor of Nkomazi Local Municipality, Councillor TN Makamo, councillors and other stakeholders, demonstrating the importance of collaboration between government and communities in ensuring the successful
implementation of public infrastructure projects.

Speaking during the introduction, MEC Thomo expressed confidence in the contractor’s ability to complete the project within the stipulated timelines, noting that the contractor had previously demonstrated the capacity to deliver projects within agreed timeframes and, in some instances, ahead of schedule.

“We are confident that the contractor will bring the same level of commitment and dedication to the construction of Siboshwa Primary School. Our expectation is that this project will be completed within the agreed timelines, and where possible, ahead of schedule, without compromising the quality of the work. Our learners deserve safe, modern and well-equipped schools that will support their educational aspirations,” said MEC Thomo.

The MEC also issued a stern warning against any attempts to disrupt the implementation of the project, emphasising that unnecessary interference, intimidation or unlawful disruptions at project sites would not be tolerated. He called on all stakeholders and community members to allow the contractor and workers to perform their duties without hindrance, while encouraging any concerns to be raised through appropriate channels.

“Government is committed to delivering infrastructure that benefits our communities, and we cannot allow disruptions to derail projects intended to improve the lives of our people. We will not tolerate the disruption of project sites. We expect everyone to work together, respect the construction process and allow the contractor to deliver within the agreed timelines. Our priority is to ensure that learners benefit from this investment without unnecessary delays,” MEC Thomo emphasised.

MEC Thomo further stressed that the contractor and all relevant stakeholders must ensure that the project is implemented efficiently, adheres to the required quality standards and delivers the intended benefits to learners and the surrounding community. The Department remains committed to investing in public infrastructure that supports service delivery, promotes socio-economic development and strengthens access to quality education across Mpumalanga. The construction of Siboshwa Primary School forms part of these ongoing efforts to ensure that educational facilities respond to the needs of communities and contribute to a better future for the province’s learners.
