Public Works, Roads and Transport
Media Statement

The MEC for Public Works, Roads and Transport in Mpumalanga, Mr. Thulasizwe Thomo, has noted with serious concern reports of an unknown individual using 0732271642 cellphone number, fraudulently soliciting money from members of the public under the false pretext of acting on behalf of, or being associated with, the MEC.

The MEC categorically distances himself from these actions and wishes to place it on record that neither he nor his office has authorised any individual to request or collect money on his behalf for any reason.

The matter is being treated with the utmost urgency, and the MEC is in the process of opening a criminal case with law enforcement authorities. Investigations will be pursued to ensure that the perpetrator is identified and brought to justice.

MEC Thomo urges members of the public, stakeholders, and businesses to remain vigilant and to exercise caution when approached with such requests. Any suspicious communication or solicitation should be reported immediately to the nearest police station.

“The abuse of my name to defraud innocent people is deeply concerning. I strongly urge the public not to fall victim to such scams and to verify any information through official government communication channels,” said MEC Thomo.

The Department reiterates its commitment to transparency and accountability and encourages anyone who may have been approached or affected by this scam to come forward and assist with the investigation.
