The Mpumalanga Department of Health is proud to announce the successful management of a high-risk obstetric case at Tintswalo Hospital, a rural public healthcare facility.

On 2 May 2026, Ms. Sindy Phindile Matlhakoane, a 39-year-old mother, safely delivered triplets under the care of our dedicated multidisciplinary team. Triplet pregnancies are rare, classified as high-risk multiple gestations, and are frequently associated with preterm delivery between 32 and 34 weeks of gestation. Such cases typically require advanced maternal and neonatal intensive care. The successful outcome at Tintswalo Hospital demonstrates the facility's capacity to provide specialized, high-care services in a rural setting.

The deliveries occurred sequentially:

  • First infant: Female, born at 07:40, birth weight 2,470 g
  • Second infant: Female, born at 07:42, birth weight 2,530 g
  • Third infant: Female, born at 07:44, birth weight 1,790 g

All neonates were delivered safely and are receiving appropriate postnatal care. The mother, now a parent of six children (having previously delivered twins and a singleton), expressed her gratitude and joy at the outcome.

Hospital Chief Executive Officer, Ms. M.B. Moyimane, together with hospital management, commended Dr. J.C. Ndlovu, Dr. S.T. Zungu, and the maternity ward team for their clinical expertise and commitment.

The MEC for Health in Mpumalanga, Ms. Sasekani Manzini, extended best wishes to the mother and acknowledged the exceptional efforts of the healthcare professionals.

" We are proud that this rare and complex obstetric case was successfully managed in one of our public healthcare facilities. The expertise, dedication, and compassion of our health workers ensured a safe outcome for both mother and infants. During Workers' Month, this achievement highlights the diligence and efficiency with which our staff serve the public. It is further evidence of the capability and resilience of our healthcare system, and we celebrate the excellence consistently demonstrated within our facilities," said MEC Manzini.
