The Mpumalanga Provincial Government will tomorrow join the global community in celebrating the International Day for Persons with Disabilities, to be held in Thaba Chweu Municipality.

Through the celebration, the Provincial Government seeks to unite the people of Mpumalanga, inclusive of Persons with Disabilities, children, women, youth, men, and LGBTQIA+ communities, to pursue the goals of building a province that embrace all, irrespective of their conditions.

The Provincial celebration further aims to inspire hope in the Mpumalanga Provincial Government's ability to address challenges faced by people with disabilities, while recognizing those who have made notable achievements in improving their quality of life across various sectors.

The celebration of the International Day takes place annually and started in 1982 to highlight the rights, dignity, and achievements of over 1.3 billion people around the world living with disabilities. The rights of individuals with disabilities are a key factor during the celebration, and are promoted through various dedicated programmes, such as the World Autism Awareness and Acceptance Day, National Month of Deaf People, and Albinism Awareness Month.

The Provincial celebration has been organised in partnership with various stakeholders and will acknowledge organisations representing persons with disabilities for their contributions in the improvement of the lives of individuals with disabilities at a gala dinner.
