Today, the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) Provincial Week convened in Thaba Chweu Local Municipality, under the theme: “Confronting the challenges facing the timely delivery of viable public infrastructure to communities.”

Addressing delegates in Lydenburg, Mpumalanga Premier, Mr Mandla Ndlovu acknowledged the challenges facing the municipality while highlighting progress made in improving service delivery and strengthening local government.
Irregular expenditure has been reduced from R1.3 billion to R365 million. Progress has also been made in addressing sewer spillages, with the Water and Sanitation Master Plan completed and Phase 1B of the Lydenburg Wastewater Treatment Works now complete.
Thaba Chweu has further recorded a significant improvement in its Green Drop score, from 8% to 58%.
Road upgrades along the R36 and R540 are also supporting economic activity in the area, particularly in tourism, mining and agriculture.
Premier Ndlovu emphasised that continued oversight and accountability are critical to addressing the challenges facing the municipality and improving service delivery to communities.
