The Mpumalanga Department of Health wishes to inform the Steve Tshwete community that the relocation of services from the old Middelburg Hospital to the newly built King Nyabela Hospital has been successfully completed.
The relocation process commenced on 30 October 2025, and by 19 November 2025 all services had been fully transferred and are now fully executed at King Nyabela Hospital.
The Department ensured that the relocation and risk mitigation plan were carefully implemented to ensure a smooth and safe transition.
The community is therefore advised that all hospital services previously rendered at the old Middelburg Hospital are now provided at King Nyabela hospital. All patients who were admitted at the old Middelburg hospital have also been transferred; therefore, families and relatives are encouraged to visit their loved ones at the new hospital.
On Thursday, 19 November 2025, the MEC for Health, Sasekani Manzini visited King Nyabela Hospital to observe the progress and outcomes of the migration from the old to the new facility. The MEC indicated that she was generally pleased that the community had already begun using the new hospital as the Department prepares for its official opening, and she also apologised for any inconvenience that arose from the inevitable transition
"We are happy that the transition unfolded accordingly and in line with what was expected of it. As the Department, we made it our commitment to engage management, staff and organised labour to ensure a smooth and safe move for both the patients and workers," said MEC Manzini.
The visiting times at the facility are as follows:
IOhOO - IOh30
15hOO - 16hOO
Community members are urged to note that evening visits have been suspended until further notice.
The new, modern, state-of-the-art King Nyabela Hospital represents a major milestone in improving access to quality healthcare services for the communities in the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality.
