Issues relating to service delivery and development in traditional communities will be in the spotlight at the Nkangala District Municipality Annual Mayoral Address. Executive Mayor, Cllr Thomas Ngwenya, is billed to address Amakhosi at the upcoming Mayoral Address this Friday. The engagement will foster collaboration between municipalities and traditional leaders to realise community development. Ensuring collaboration, the three district municipalities in Mpumalanga will each host their Annual Mayoral Addresses to Traditional Leaders.
These engagements strengthen working relations between municipalities and Amakhosi, thereby improving local service delivery and identifying rural development challenges. This also provides a platform for traditional leaders to raise direct challenges regarding local government.
Traditional Leaders serve as vital custodians of culture, local governance, and community welfare. Depending on the jurisdiction, their responsibilities include dispute resolution, land administration, development and welfare, and an advisory role; hence, the relations between Amakhosi and government remain key to service delivery.
