The Office of the Premier (OTP) appeared before the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature’s Oversight Committee on Legislature and Premier’s Office to account for its performance during the first quarter of the 2026/27 financial year.
Premier Mandla Ndlovu led a team of senior management, accompanied by Director-General Ms Maggie Skosana, during the oversight session, where the OTP provided an update on key initiatives aimed at advancing the priorities of the 7th Administration.
A key highlight was the OTP’s achievement of a second consecutive clean audit for the 2025/26 financial year.
Premier Mr Mandla Ndlovu said the outcome “attests to the fact that we are committed to integrity and good governance”, adding that the Office’s internal control systems and compliance framework are firmly in place and functional.
The Premier said the clean audit outcome reflects the Office’s responsibility to lead by example as the apex of government in the province, emphasising the importance of maintaining high standards of good governance, accountability, and integrity.
The Auditor-General congratulated the Office of the Premier on its clean audit outcome and noted an overall improvement in the performance of the Mpumalanga Provincial Government. The AG encouraged the OTP, the Director-General, and the Portfolio Committee to continue with the initiatives that have contributed to this improvement and to sustain the positive trajectory across government.
Key on the agenda was the ongoing process of filling vacant posts, which is critical to strengthening institutional capacity, improving coordination across government, and enhancing service delivery. Discussions also covered the OTP’s transition towards paperless management through the implementation of e-submissions and e-recruitment systems, aimed at improving efficiency, protecting records, and reducing administrative costs.
The Premier’s Youth Development Fund was also recognised as a positive intervention supporting young entrepreneurs. The Fund is a key instrument in empowering young people to build sustainable businesses, create employment opportunities, and contribute meaningfully to inclusive economic growth in Mpumalanga.
These oversight mechanisms remain important in strengthening accountability, monitoring government performance, and ensuring that provincial programmes continue to deliver meaningful outcomes for the people of Mpumalanga.
