The Office of the Premier on Wednesday, 8 July 2026, conducted the first day of its one-on-one performance assessments for the 2025/26 financial year.

The one-on-one performance assessments were led by the Premier of Mpumalanga, Mr Mandla Ndlovu, with the support of the Director-General, Ms. Maggie Skosana, senior management from the Office of the Premier, and senior management from Provincial Treasury to strengthen financial accountability and monitor departments' financial performance.

The first day of the assessments focused on the Departments of Public Works, Roads and Transport; Co-operative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs; Social Development; Education; and Health.

The engagements were attended by the respective Members of the Executive Council responsible for these portfolios, namely MEC Thulasizwe Thomo (Public Works, Roads and Transport), MEC Speed Mashilo (Co-operative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs), MEC Nompumelelo Hlophe (Social Development), MEC Lindi Masina (Education), and MEC Sasekani Manzini (Health), together with their Heads of Department and senior management teams.

The one-on-one assessments provided an opportunity for the Office of the Premier to engage directly with departments on their performance, review progress in implementing government programmes, strengthen accountability for service delivery, assess financial and non-financial performance, and identify challenges requiring intervention to improve performance. The sessions also enabled the Office of the Premier to monitor progress against agreed targets, address implementation challenges, and ensure that departments remain responsive to the needs of the people of Mpumalanga.

The assessments were conducted in line with the priorities of the 7th Administration, namely driving inclusive economic growth and job creation, reducing poverty and tackling the high cost of living, and building a capable, ethical and developmental state, as well as the commitments outlined in the 2026 State of the Province Address.

The one-on-one performance assessments form part of the Office of the Premier's ongoing oversight responsibility to strengthen accountability, improve departmental performance, ensure financial accountability, and support the effective implementation of government programmes and the delivery of quality services across the province
