The Premier-Elect for the Mpumalanga Provincial Government will be sworn in shortly after the first sitting of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature, in accordance with the Constitution. Section 129 of the Constitution states that the Premier-Elect must assume office within five days of being elected by swearing or affirming faithfulness to the Republic and obedience to the Constitution.
The first sitting of the legislature is expected to ensure the swearing in of new members of the provincial legislature as well as the election of, amongst others, the Premier.
In consideration of other demanding processes with regards to the formation of the seventh administration, the swearing in of the Mpumalanga Premier-Elect is thus scheduled to take place shortly after the first sitting of the provincial legislature. The Judge President of the Mpumalanga Division of the High court, Justice Segopotje Mphahlele will administer the procedure.
The taking of an oath by the Premier-Elect is therefore planned as follows;
