The community of Newtown Ext. 1 in Steve Tshwete Local Municipality, Mpumalanga is set to immensely benefit as Mpumalanga Premier, Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane accompanied by Human Settlements MEC for Human Settlements; Mr Speed Mashilo and Local Executive Mayor, Cllr. Mhlonishwa Masilela will officially open a state of the art Community Hall and a Childcare Centre at Hlalamnandi Township. The provision of social amenities is part of the delivery of integrated sustainable human settlements entails ensuring liveable neighbourhoods wherein the young and old are presented with equal opportunities.

The childcare centre is equipped with ablution facilities, kitchen, rest rooms and play area, amongst others. The facility will be used for early childhood development purposes to nurture children and introducing them into a schooling system. The hall’s capacity is 600 people seated including walkways, this also depends on the seating arrangements. The total area for the hall includes a ticket booth, fitted kitchens, and three offices including two boardrooms, caretaker’s room, three storage rooms, two change rooms, ablution facilities and a stage. The total construction budget for both amenities is over R24 million.

To restore dignity and afford security of tenure to beneficiaries, the political principals will also handover 263 title deeds to deserving beneficiaries of government subsidised houses at Newtown Extension 1.
