The Premier of Mpumalanga Province, Ms Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane has learnt of an article carried in some local online publication last week that makes serious allegation against her.
The article, the contents of which borders on defamation, was written without any attempt to give her a right of reply prior to print, a cardinal requirement for any media practitioner.
The Premier views the allegations contained in the article and the conduct of the journalist concerned, in a serious light.
She has accordingly instituted legal action against the publication and its editor, for defamation. Furthermore, the Premier has filed a formal complaint with the Press Ombudsman.
The Premier has equally learnt of a media statement suggesting that the matter will be referred to the Public Protector, a Chapter 9 institution, for a formal investigation.
She welcomes and supports any investigation into the matter. She further states that she will cooperate fully with the said investigation.
