Nelspruit: The Premier of Mpumalanga, Mr Mandla Ndlovu, MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Mr. Jacky Macie, Executive Mayor of the City of Mbombela, Councillor Sibongile Makhushe and Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Apaphia Modise, led a multidisciplinary high density operation in Mbombela on Friday, 18 September 2026.
The operation brought together forces from SAPS, Provincial Traffic Law Enforcement, Home Affairs (Immigration), South African Revenue Services (SARS), Correctional Services, City of Mbombela, Private Security and Mpumalanga Economic Regulator.
The operation yielded the following successes:
  • Illicit liquor worth more than R2 million was confiscated.
  • Counterfeit goods worth more than R100 000 were confiscated.
  • Three (03) suspects were arrested for dealing in dagga with an estimated street value of R50 000.
  • Three (03) vehicles were impounded for being unroadworthy.
  • Six (06) parolees who had absconded were traced and arrested by officials from the Department of Correctional Services.
  • Six (06) shops were found to be operating without Certificates of Acceptability during inspections by Environmental Health officials.
  • Six (06) undocumented persons were arrested for contravention of the Immigration Act.
  • Two (02) unlicensed liquor outlets were closed down and liquor confiscated.
  • The Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSiRA) issued forty-nine (49) non-compliance notices.
Lieutenant General Apaphia Modise says that the SAPS in Mpumalanga will continue to conduct such operations across the province to ensure that lawlessness is not tolerated.
"This multidisciplinary high density operation demonstrates our collective commitment to ensuring the safety and security of our communities. Through integrated operations, we will continue to squeeze the space for criminals and enforce compliance with the law," said the General.
The Mpumalanga Premier, Mr Mandla Ndlovu, commended the team under the commandership of the Provincial Commissioner for the well collaborated operation.
