Research studies depict women in rural provinces such as Mpumalanga, as the most vulnerable group to the harsh reality of poverty. The findings of the studies highlight the lack of opportunities, limited economic opportunities and financial support, as contributing factors.

The Mpumalanga Provincial Government’s quest to intensify women participation in the economic sectors of the province, is a game changer in this 7th Administration. This is a build up from previous Administrations, and affirm the commitment to the three priorities of the current administration, key among them, to drive an inclusive economic growth and job creation. It further highlights an empowerment program propelled by an empowerment-centred approach of appointing women-led businesses for infrastructure development.

Their companies in construction are allocated infrastructure projects such as building houses, roads and bridges, health and school facilities. The Premier, Mr Mandla Ndlovu says the participation of women in the construction sector creates opportunities for them to play a meaningful role towards poverty alleviation programs.

Premier Ndlovu has convened an assembly of women in construction to discuss with them measures to increase their participation in the sector. The session will afford them an opportunity to share their experiences, and for the government to address their challenges.

MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlement and Traditional Affairs, Mr. Speed Mashilo and MEC for Public Works, Roads and Transport, Mr. Thulasizwe Thomo, Executive Mayors and role players in the construction sector will attend the function.
