The Premier of Mpumalanga, Mr. Mandla Ndlovu will convene a high level multi-sectoral Provincial Council on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) meeting aimed at coordinating and monitoring the implementation of national and provincial strategies aimed at combating the GBVF crisis.
The meeting will be attended by the representatives of the government, the civil society, traditional leaders, and the private sector. It operates under the framework of the national GBVF strategy as a vital platform to take decisive decisions and implement policy recommendations. The multi-stakeholder collaboration is also key to address the GBVF scourge in the province.
Premier Ndlovu is the leader of the Council Meeting, in accordance with the national structure, as outlined in the National Council on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide Act, 2024. It focuses on the prevention programme, victim support, law enforcement coordination, and community awareness. The goal is to ensure that anti-GBVF programmes are responsive to the challenges that are prevalent in the province.
The Mpumalanga Provincial Council on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide was launched by Premier Ndlovu in February this year and is aligned with the province's approved Provincial Strategic Plan on GBVF.
