Mpumalanga Premier, Mr Mandla Ndlovu, convened a stakeholders' meeting with the three TVET Colleges of Ehlanzeni, Nkangala and Gert Sibande. The three Colleges play a fundamental role in skills development programmes. The meeting discussed strengthening technical and vocational skills development in the province, and was attended by various MECs and the Director-General, Ms Maggie Skosana.
The engagement emphasised the need for all provincial departments to collaborate with TVET colleges to create more practical opportunities for young people to gain relevant skills and work experience. This includes partnerships around bursaries, learnerships, lecturer placements, workshop equipment, infrastructure support and opportunities for workplace-based training across different sectors.
The colleges also highlighted opportunities to expand training in areas such as agriculture, hospitality, tourism, renewable energy and engineering, which are important for Mpumalanga’s economic growth.
Premier Ndlovu emphasised that preparing young people for the world of work requires a collective effort by government, TVET colleges, industry and communities. He reaffirmed that continued investment in skills development and youth training is essential to building a capable and self-reliant generation equipped to contribute meaningfully to the province’s economy and future.
