The Mpumalanga Premier, Mr Mandla Ndlovu will on Thursday hand over a brand-new fleet of 15 new ambulances and five new primary response vehicles to strengthen the provincial government’s response time to life threatening cases.
The new vehicles represent the provincial government’s determination to invest towards swift response to life-threatening emergencies, such as road accidents, and other critical health incidents. The ambulances will ensure that the emergency medical personnel arrive timeously at the scene to save lives, and are able to transport patients to health care institutions without delays.
This investment aligns with the National Development Plan (NDP) 2030, which calls for a strengthened, equitable and responsive health system that ensures all South Africans have access to quality healthcare services in Mpumalanga.
By expanding and modernising the provincial Emergency Medical Services (EMS) fleet, the Mpumalanga Provincial Government is determined to improve emergency response times, enhance access to lifesaving care, and better health outcomes for communities across the province. The initiative is also aligned with the implementation of the National Health Insurance (NHI), aimed at strengthening the public health system and improving the capacity of Emergency Medical Services to deliver accessible and quality healthcare for all.
The delivery of the new fleet illustrates the provincial government’s quest to respond to the needs of the communities in the province, based on their requests for ambulances during the community participation forums as well as the Premier’s Izimbizo. The ambulances and the new response vehicles will be strategically distributed across the province, as a strategy to augment the existing aging fleet to improve the availability during the downtime.
Premier Ndlovu will be joined by Health MEC, Ms Sasekani Manzini, along with senior district and local municipal leadership, during the hand over.
The handover ceremony is planned as follows:
