The Premier of Mpumalanga, Mandla Ndlovu, will tomorrow hand over the newly completed amenities to which comprise of a childcare centre and a community hall to the rural community of Ntunda in Nkomazi Local Municipality.

These amenities were constructed by the Mpumalanga Provincial Government through Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA) after having been identified by the Nkomazi Local Municipality on an urgent need but lacked the financial resources to undertake the project independently. The Provincial Government agreed to take responsibility after recognising their importance in fostering development and addressing serving delivery gaps. Both the childcare centre and the community hall will provide modern, accessible facilities that would serve as focal points for social, cultural and educational activities.

The community hall can accommodate close to 600 people, and boasts a fitted kitchen, five offices, change rooms, ablution facilities and a beautiful stage. The childcare centre consists of three classrooms, medical room, sickbay, four storerooms, three offices, play area as well as the ablution facilities.

Nkomazi Local Municipality is expected to generate some revenue through venue hire for private events whilst the youth will utilise the facility for extra mural activities. Children will have access to formal early childhood development centre whilst the teachers will also benefit in terms of job opportunities. As part of their corporate social investment initiative, the contractor has equally constructed a two-bedroom house for a local family of 14 members, which is currently residing in their old government provided house (RDP). The new house will serve as an extension that will bring about convenience on their situation.
